I hold a BSc degree from Aston University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling from Leicester University. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I abide by the current BACP Professional Conduct Procedure.
I use two types of therapeutic approach : Psychodynamic & Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Psychodynamic methods often seek to answer clients’ questions of “Why do I tend to think and behave in certain ways ?” and “How have people or events from my past contributed to how I’m feeling now ?”
CBT focusses more on what is happening right now for a client. It aims to explore current difficulties and how each contributing factor might be gradually changed to create better solutions to a client’s problems. A CBT style of working often requires clients to engage in regular reflection or targeted homework outside sessions.
Alternative actions available to clients are always discussed in session but the decision to make changes always rests with the client and no pressure is placed on him or her to respond in a particular way.
